"The lack of human dignity experienced by Africans is the direct result of the policy of white supremacy."

This is a quote from Mandela's "I am Prepared to Die" speech (full speech) at his 1963 trial for sabotage and treason.  In the speech, opted for by Mandela as a political action rather than a legal defense, he points out his criticisms of the racist apartheid South African state which he was aiming at correcting.

Mandela became President of South Africa in 1994 in a democratic election.  He did not seek reelection in 1999.  The succeeding Presidents have been Mbeki, Motlanthe, and Zuma.

Reports of police brutality have risen 313% in the past decade.  The rate for conviction against a police officer charged is 1%.

"Above all, My Lord, we want equal political rights, because without them our disabilities will be permanent. I know this sounds revolutionary to the whites in this country, because the majority of voters will be Africans. This makes the white man fear democracy.
   But this fear cannot be allowed to stand in the way of the only solution which will guarantee racial harmony and freedom for all. It is not true that the enfranchisement of all will result in racial domination. Political division, based on colour, is entirely artificial and, when it disappears, so will the domination of one colour group by another."

Farm attacks are 700% higher in South Africa than any other country on earth.  Over 3000 (10%) Boer farmers have been murdered since 1994 (the end of apartheid).  Total whites (reported) murdered since 1994 is 60 000 (17% of total murders in South Africa--350 000).  Two white farmers or family members are murdered per week.  Deaths are linked to political motivations, going through gangs as middle men who offer money to prospective murderers.  400 000 white South Africans have left South Africa.  Only 40 000 white farmers remain in South Africa of 128 000 in 1980.
